To start this off, I have to say: welcome to this new series! Starting in 2021, I plan on listening to popular and recommended albums that I haven’t fully dove into and put my What’s So Special About Music Anyways? flair into the mix.
Let’s get started!!
The first record to kick things off is the one, the only: WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? by the notable, Billie Eilish. And before I go into it: yes, I know that I have been sleeping, and I still can’t tell you where I was, but all I know is that I’m glad to be here.
How do I start talking about this album? Well- let’s start with the obvious: Billie Eilish knows how to bend and twist the idea of genre and musical techniques. As one listens to this record, it is so easy to become speechless because the genre influence resonates with a pop foundation with this variation of other genres just dropping in here and there to spice things up.
The thematic centers not only pack a punch through wit and relevancy, but the way that the instrumentation and harmonization complements them makes for the perfect musical experience. This record is so relaxed but also so hype-worthy that it spins to become this beautiful contradiction that leaves you engaged and always wanting more.
Will this be joining my music library to bop with the best of ‘em?
- Yes, yes it will.
Is this record sensational enough to be placed upon the vinyl shelf (the top of the craft)?
- Yes, yes it is.
*”WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE DO?” was released on March 29th, 2019 through Darkroom/Interscope Records.
